a twenty year break away from making music is almost unheard of especially within electronic music circles, but that is where antenna happy finds himself with pinto. clocking in at 9.09 pinto draws from psychedelia and techno set straight for the sun. this kaleidoscopic sonic excursion has all the makings of a cult classic, and heads up the debut 12- release on newly founded imprint reinhardt records. taking lead on the b-side an entirely different affair in the shape of fallen. this is benchmark electronic music, as arpeggiators take flight mirrored against hypnotic acid bass, for a journey into the outer house territories. closing the ep, spark holds the reigns. conceived within the same stretch as pinto, however it wasn t until some months later that spark took on its full form. emotive modular synths lay the groundwork, connecting the dots between low-slung techno and house music, culminating in a track that sits in neither genre camp. spark will appear on the digital release only. the ep title track takes its name and inspiration from paintings by antenna happy s three-year-old daughter, whose birth inspired him to return to making music. close-ups of these paintings can be seen in the artwork for the release.

londoners kiwi and ashworth return to sneaky for a follow-up to dawn ep, the warm, dusty and at times experimental release, championed by the likes of daniel avery, eric duncan and tiefschwarz. the past few months have been busy for both halves of the duo, with kiwi signing to duke dumont s blase boys club and remixing for house music super-labels bpitch control and get physical, whilst ashworth has signed music to tomoki tamura s holic trax and needwant. second ep takes a new format, with two original tracks alaska and na am on the a-side, backed up by a nicholas & marcoradi remix of cux3 and ranacat s remix of zubr. alaska could be described as an amalgamation of the inspirations that lead to the first sneaky release, combining the pumping house beats of cux3, the comforting wurlitzer of zubr and the ethereal movie-soundtrack dusk. na am is something totally different, existing mainly as a collage of recorded and found sounds, avoiding the usual structure of house music in favour of something reminiscent of the weirder side of the chemical brothers. strange though the track may be, the climax would undoubtedly move a room full of pilled up ravers to a state of frenzy. the b-side remixes both hint to dance floors of the 90s, with nicholas and marcoradi making you wait and wait before dropping an unforgettable piano hook, whilst sneaky s ranacat lifts zubr out of context and into peak time territory.

the sexiest dj duo on wheels steers their way back into the hearts of house music fans everywhere with -what you believe,- a 2-track vinyl-only ep. this sixth installment shows a different side of the duo... here, in contrast to their past vocal collaborations with corbu, gry and bob moses, they opt for a pair of lush dancefloor instrumentals, delivering their most dj-friendly package to date.

merck 274350 with its propulsive mechanical basslines, industrial-strength percussion, and a germanic vocodered mantra, this teutonic panzer tank of a track takes absolutely no prisoners - an electronic matter of fact statement inspired by the passing of time, fate, circumstance, and synchronicity. holland s misanthropic high priest of psychedelic, doomy, dark house & techno, drvg cvltvre, delivers a trippy interpretation, turning the track into a lysergic love letter to this iconic chemical catalyst, maintaining the dynamic bassline of the original but adding a nagging 303 line to deliver an explosive 3am dancefloor device. one step closer to heaven begins with a metronomic, rhythmic new beat stomp and a nagging insidious synth refrain that recalls the more electronic side of new order. muscular synth riffs then drop in and out of the mix, taking the track into dark ebm territory and ramping up the pressure before the influences of giorgio moroder and cerrone come to the fore, propelling the track into a rapture of hypnotic celestial electronic disco.

if you re going to beat em down, you need the right tools. on the label s second release, grimy trax has given you a couple hammers. the a-side, dejay cease s the fixer is straight chicago. we re talking banging 909 funk that might be found buried on a particularly unhinged ron hardy mix. a simple bass line and two notes of acid are all it takes to make the floor go wild. this is functional heat with enough atmosphere to engage the mind, body and soul. on the b-side, rising chicago son boogienite proves he s earned the hype. boy, ok is an instant classic thanks to some recognizable disco strings and a funky escalator of a bassline. the producer uses a trippy, rubberband synth which eventually turns into rhythmic, teasing vocal. the mixdown is ridiculous, especially as the lengthy track passes the halfway mark. boogie brings the bassline in and out in between beautiful ambient rhodes and a call and response male and female vocal. those strings hit again and you feel no pain.

common dreams is a new techno project. serving as both the artist name and the label, it s vision is to bring you a steady flow of futuristic, harmonic and rhythmic techno tracks. data waves is a deep and mental journey that is intended to send the listener or dancefloor into a hypnotic state of mind, while twisted future is a funky, soulful techno track, also with a dancefloor edge.

make no mistake, for vault series 15 the doors have been flung open to welcome a new act to the fold. theres very little known about mistake made. no records or releases exist to date, but they have impressed vault chief subjected enough to have them join the sequestered berlin-based crew. and in sublime compliance with the vault series creed, this debut effort from the shadowy outfit presents yet another set of functioning and frill-free dancefloor material, complete with a rusted-through hue of its own. on the a-side >wrist< jumps straight in with marching intent, complete with fidgety hat work thats both anxious and infectious. then on the flip, >ricochet< opens with field recordings tossed into a stormy concoction of ticks, hats and fuzzy atmospherics, teamed up here with one of those basslines that will keep you glued to the floor. >indec< then concludes in signature vault series style an ominous, growling number rattled with alarm bells and screeching, clangorous detail. its one of those monstrous slow-burners that leaves you wounded yet longing for more. all in all, a rounded first release from a new techno tour de force. this isnt the last we will be hearing from mistake made.

a kaleidoscope of rainbow textures and rhythms disperse into the exotic soundscape of *tropical*. electronics, real folk instruments and noise-making objects feature here generously on this six-track concept album, blending together a sonic palette influenced by a rich variety of music, people and places. the material was initially written over the course of a few months during what seneviratne called *a beautiful burst of inspiration*. working with veteran producer asier leatxe ibanez d opakoa (electric lady studios, nyc), seneviratne then set about disassembling all the songs and re-working them meticulously, enriching the sounds by adding a huge range of live instrumentation, before processing the audio through vintage analogue studio gear. the vinyl lp comes with download code.

valcrond video, the label run by sound and image artist luke wyatt (torn hawk), apresents vv-013 russos *wild metals*. russo (ari russo) is an nyc based multi-artist whose engagement with abandoned media finds an outlet in the video bursts he culls as officefern. as a programmer, he has produced innovative music generation tools such as the diamond arpeggiator. he returns to his own music with this collection of challenging and transporting structures. wyatt and vv are eager to endorse russos latest report on crossmodal perception, a true exercise in synesthesia. *wild metals* sounds like ferns and orchids infiltrating a tableaux of black plastic electronics, the breed of black plastic that russo and wyatt both found sinisterly inserted into the grid of their childhood. it provided the skin for some of their favorite toys, and its general resonance was aligned with the fast cars, women, and architecture that dominated their imaginations.

capital bass continues to offer an insight into moscows blooming bass music scene through releases from an auspicious and expanding family of local producers. following up the success of formally unknown s untitled ep is another tough and bottom-heavy package from close label friend and red bull music academy moscow member - pak0.

very welcome reissue of the 12 inch vinyl version of the superb *onda* from brazilian soul legend cassiano. one of the founding fathers of the scene, a contemporary of and collaborator with people such as tim maia, hyldon, etc., cassiano only released a handful of lps and singles but the quality made up for the quantity and this 1977 polydor 12- features two of his best moments. side as *onda* is a lilting sun-drenched slice of pure soul heaven with a grooving b-line and sweet vocals that at nearly 8 minutes is still not enough - a truly captivating mellow masterpiece that you want to last forever... the flip side is no less accomplished - an upfront bass-heavy funk jam guaranteed to whip the dancefloor into a frenzy. essential!

rafael da cruz 1st black label 12inch finally hits the streets, dipping into deeper, gloomier spheres of house. soaring synths cleverly trim the bed of fat broad baselines. the black 80s give the original a wicked analogue touch, with a splendid soulful vocal version as bonus track. cosmic cowboys and david hasert supply two impressive remixes that both create a dark, but uniquely vibrant scenery and complete the package.
